Patients & Families | Care & Maintenance
Once you’ve chosen your hearing instrument, you’re on your way to better hearing. Caring for your hearing device with proper cleaning, maintenance and operation will make the adjustment process a smooth one.
Daily cleaning and regular service are important to maintaining your hearing instrument. They will extend its life, ensure proper hygiene and retain optimum hearing conditions.
Hearing Instrument Care Tips
- Use care when handling your hearing instrument.
- Store it in a cool, dry, safe place.
- Turn off your hearing instrument when it’s not in use. Remove the battery if it won’t be used for an extended period.
- Change batteries regularly to avoid running out of power.
- Clean the battery contacts frequently with a cotton swab. Avoid bending the contacts.
- Remove earwax from your hearing instrument regularly. Also, contact your hearing professional to have ear wax removed from your ear canals. (Don’t attempt to clean the earwax from your ear yourself; it could cause injury.)
- Use a small brush or the soft cloth that came with your hearing instrument for cleaning. Ask your hearing professional for assistance if necessary. Never insert tools into the sound outlet – it could damage the receiver.
- Remove your hearing instrument when:
- in the shower
- swimming
- when using a hair dryer, hair spray,
or other types of spray
- Replace the filters in your hearing instrument regularly to avoid collected wax or dirt.
